  1. Very nice! I really like the smoke effect. Any tricks to share? Is it spraypainted cotton-balls?

  2. I love dogfights and I don't care if they are WW1 or WW2. This reminds me of the TV show about the Black Sheep I watched years ago...a lot of years ago.
    Are the planes pre-painted?

  3. brutpaul, the smoke belongs to Jil, I'll try to remember to ask him how it was done. It looks a lot better than the stuff I just spray paint. You could also go to his blog and ask him. There is a link on the right (The Historical Miniaturist)

Baron Von Whiteface - You are thinking about Baa Baa Black Sheep I think which was very loosely based on VMF214 and Greg Boyington.
The planes are painted out of the box from the Wings of War miniatures game.

I got a bunch of telescoping mirrors from harbor freight when they were on sale for 1.00 each. I cut off the mirrors, leaving the stem. Then I got some heat shrink tubing from the electrical dept. at home depot and cut short sections that fit over the mirror stem and the little stem coming from the airplanes. I initially made some small bushings that fit in the end of the telescoping mirror that would fit into the original stands. This last part I am not too crazy about because the stands are really not big enough to handle the weight of the assembly too well, and they are prone to tipping. I am planning to keep everything the same but make some heavier bases.

  6. Cheers, might give it a go if Ican get the parts cheap enough.
pity you didn't get to fish the Napoleonic scenario using sharp practice rules ~ very interesting.
    keep up the great blog.
