The kids are having a lot of fun with the Warrior Heroes Armies & Adventures rules I got from Two Hour Wargames. It is a great rules set which is easy to customize and quite fast playing. I find that with younger kids, they really need something to hold on to while playing the game, it really helps to keep them focused, and it's much better to have them gripping laminated cards than miniatures!
I made these cards with a nifty little program called Magic Set Editor 2, which is really designed for making CCG cards for things like Magic the Gathering.
